WebApr 20, 2011 · The problem with the earlier FJ40s is that there's no practical way to vent the rear in hot weather. The roof material is not ideal to install vents. I tried leaving the upper door open, but that sucks in a copious amount of exhaust fumes. Sliding windows would also help dispel moisture that causes window fogging. In 1975 I put my 68 FJ40 on it's side. In 1976 found a very clean 73 hard top for cheap. Mid eighties I added vent window from a 78 FJ40 that was in a wrecking yard.
